lost, found, revived, reunited
In November 22, 2002, my in-law’s house in Malate got burned down. That unfortunate day, I did not use my engagement ring (gold eternity ring) coz well,it didn’t match with my outfit (stupid, huh?)…needless to say, it was left to melt with the other metals in my jewelry box (got mixed with white gold, tri-color gold and silver). We were able to unearth it but, as I’ve mentioned, other metals melted with it. Ergo, that was it. Goodbye my eternity ring.
I asked my officemate Alice if there’s a chance to revive this precious piece of jewelry and she said she’ll have to consult with her ex-bf who owns this jewelry shop somewhere in Binondo. I was not that optimistic coz to me well it looks pretty nasty already. Anyway, I thought it’s worth trying coz I’ve got nothin’ to lose…but the thing was, I couldn’t find it. I seem to have lost it! I just couldn’t find it anywhere. I looked everywhere. Gone. I already gave up looking for it and justified that since it melted anyway I have to accept that it’s lost forever. Then one day while organizing my closet…Eureka! It’s alive! Hehe. I found it! Now the only thing left to wonder is if it will be revived after all.
For the longest time that I gave it to Alice, she wasn’t able to do her part. Can’t blame her coz it was a favor. Actually, it was a big favor coz she just broke up with this guy and we all know how hard it is to renew ties with an ex, right? So anyway, as I’ve said, I already accepted the fate of this ring so I haven’t given it much thought. No pressures.
To cut the long story, last Wednesday, August 9, 2006, after 4 long years, I was reunited with my engagement ring! Yepyep, the very eternity ring that my hubby gave me! I couldn’t believe it! It’s finally with me again and it never looked this pretty!
When I got home, I showed it to hubby and the look on his face was just priceless. Then once again, he placed the ring on my finger and told me the exact line he said when he gave it to me…that his love for me is "eternal." (kinda like the ring…gets?) *wink*

Hi Mamu!
It was a good break reading your blogs. You never fail to amaze and amuse me with your thoughts and bluntness (not in a bad sense, I swear… oh well, at least most of the time. hehehe)
Funny how a symbol of “eternal love” can go through seemingly endless ‘odds.’ Good thing you’re not really superstitious… otherwise, you could have gone crazy soon after you found it melted in your precious jewelry box.
Oh well, lessons learned…
I wish we do not lose a thing so dear to us just because sometimes or at one moment in our lives it just does not “fit” into our world or just does not “match” our get-up (in whatever sense of the word)
I wish that just like your eternity ring we can put the pieces of a badly broken thing back together and discover that the ‘repaired’ one can nevertheless hold the same beauty and meaning
I wish I can be as cool as you… holding on, but not obsessive…optimistict but prepared for the worse, otherwise.
I wish too that just like you, i can patiently wait for that “Alice” in my life - that one person who can help me fix what’s broken…
Your story is inspiring in a lot of ways Mamu…
Thanks.
Hope to catch up with you soon.
Hi to Papa Ge.
